How to Order a Latte Whilst Travelling

Now if you are anything like me, the one thing you crave whilst travelling is a really well made cup of coffee, something to wake you up in the morning and set you right for a long day of sightseeing. One of the biggest issues is always trying to translate what you want… hand gestures can only get you so far. Our handy guide below should help you out on ordering the perfect latte on your next big adventure.

France: Café Crème – Now whilst not technically a latte, a Café Crème is really the closest you can get and stands for cream coffee, an espreesso shot with steamed milk, similar to a cappuccino.

Italy: Latte Macchiato – In Italy the practised way of drinking coffee is to sip standing up. The Italians like to drink as much caffeine, in the shortest amount of time possible. For a milky drink that is similar to what most of us are used to, order a Latte Macchiato, which loosely translates to stained milk, milk which is stained with a shot of coffee.

Germany: Milch Kaffee – This is coffee with milk, a latte! Be careful though because ordering the seemingly similar Kaffee Mit Milch, will get you black coffee with a side of milk.

Spain: Cafe Con Leche – This is once again your espresso with milk, be warned though the milk is often served scalding. The Spanish unlike most of the rest of Europe, enjoy this coffee at all hours of the day, not just in the morning.
