Last week our Head of Coffee Jeremy Regan was sent down to Melbourne to partake in MICE, the Melbourne International Coffee Expo. Jeremy was selected as one of the judges for the Barista competition. The barista competition starts with 12 competitors in the open heats. 4 of these competitors get through to the semi finals to compete against other regional winners.
This year MICE moved the dates of its annual event to give the Australian Barista Championship winner and Australian Brewers Cup winner, the time to travel to Boston to compete in the 2019 World Barista Championship and World Brewers Cup, which they otherwise would not have time to do.
This years Australian Brewers Cup winner was Yanina Ferreyra and Matthew Lewin was the winner of the Australian Barista Championship, who will now be gearing up to head over to Boston in April to compete in the world championships.
