Australian icon Muffin Break has done it again! The leading bakery café chain has just won the 5th Quick Service Restaurant Media Detpak Conference Award for “Squad of the Year.”
The award recognises Muffin Break’s Operations team in Victoria for developing an impressive internal culture that has produced great outcomes for franchisees.
Muffin Break Victoria has achieved strong results amidst tough conditions for the retail industry over the last 18 months – with increased competition, an aggressive market and escalating rents.
Over a year ago, the Victorian Muffin Break Operations Team recognised the trends and challenges facing franchisees and devised a plan to improve store presentation standards, compliance and – most importantly – sales.
A Plan is Hatched
The first step of the plan involved building strong relationships with franchisees. Without this nothing could be achieved.
When meeting with the franchisees, the Operations Team focused on Five Key Pillars of Success:
- Great Coffee.
- Amazing Customer Service.
- Enticing Cabinets.
- Uniform Standards; and
- Clean Stores.
At their Weekly Sales Target meetings with their franchisees, the team broke this down into daily and hourly targets. This meant that the franchisee and team members could actually see these as achievable targets – ones they did achieve!
Brilliant Results
The Muffin Break Victorian team’s results for the past 12 months have been exceptional. Stores that were struggling to meet sales are now up. Plus, this program has affected all stakeholders in a positive way:
- Franchisees are happier.
- Suppliers are being paid.
- Stores are ordering more so suppliers increase sales.
- Rents are being paid on time.
The Victorian team’s strategy is incredibly reactive to change, never repeating any two days of trade to drive sales. Their mantra is: “If it isn’t building sales, stop doing it and do something else.”
