This month, Muffin Break Kingsway, Western Australia turns 10! After an exceptional 10 years, we’re looking back at all the things which have made the past 10 years full of fun memories and great experiences.
Carol and Tony, owners of Muffin Break Kingsway were both born and raised in Perth. Previously small business owners, the pair have lived locally with their children for 30 years and decided to expand into the food and beverage industry.
They purchased the Kingsway store on the 18th of December 2011 and since then, the business has gone from strength to strength.
Every challenge is a good challenge
From the beginning, the pair were brought up with the mantra, “every challenge is a good challenge” which has stuck with them from the very beginning and throughout their journey over the last 10 years. Going into the food & beverage industry with no experience was an enormous challenge, however, their love for interacting with people and providing exceptional service has seen Carol and Tony become pillars of their community and successful business owners.
The family run business has provided a safe space for staff to develop their hospitality skills and has evolved enormously with the introduction of Sunday trade 6 months after opening. A big motivator for Carol & Tony is seeing staff succeed and grow, with some staff having worked at the store since they were 13 years old.
“We prioritize great coffee, good service and exceptional products, we also work hard to make sure staff are a cohesive team, having them gel shows in their great service” mentioned Carol.
Community involvement & favourite memories
Over the 10 years, amongst many favorite memories, two specifically stand out for the pair. Firstly, their very first $2 muffin day, with the buzz of the day and excitement in both the staff and customers, the store baked 120kg of muffins! Additionally, and most recently, during the COVID19 period, where Carol worked on her own within the store and loyal customers would visit just to make sure she was ok. The love Carol and the team have for their community & customers is certainly reciprocated.
For Carol, her favorite thing about coming to work each day is her staff and their customers,
“customers become friends!” she mentioned.
Getting to know each and every one of the people who interacts with the store and the team make each day extra special.
Over the years, Carol, Tony and the team have played a large part within their local community, including donating to local soup kitchens, various sporting teams and clubs, school quiz nights & fundraisers. Funding 5 wheelchairs in countries wheelchairs aren’t available through Wheelchairs for Children. Running Little Growers workshops, cookie and muffin workshops for the local families and community, Church organization morning teas and creating boxes for Vietnam for those in need and providing muffins for the volunteers.
The one thing that has not changed over the 10-year period is the fact you can always expect great coffee and service with a smile at Muffin Break Kingsway.
$2 Coffee Day Celebration
To celebrate the store’s 10th birthday, the team will be holding a $2 Coffee Day on Monday, December 6th. Come down, grab your favourite barista made coffee, meet Carol, Tony and the team and support the locals who are here to support your local community.
