Coffee Skills on Show: Inside the 2026 Muffin Break Barista Competition

Posted on 09/09/2026

Great coffee takes skill, practice and passion, and the 2026 Muffin Break Barista Competition put all three on show.

Bringing together talented baristas from across the Muffin Break network, the competition was an opportunity for team members to step outside their stores, test their coffee-making skills and celebrate the craft that goes into every cup served at Muffin Break.

This year, Grace Shao, a talented barista from Muffin Break Fountain Gate took out the top honour, demonstrating exceptional coffee knowledge, technical skill and attention to detail.

But the competition was about much more than finding a winner. It was about celebrating our people and continuing to build coffee expertise across the Muffin Break network.

Investing in the people behind the brand

When you join an established franchise like Muffin Break, you’re joining a business with systems, training and support developed over decades.

Training doesn’t simply stop when a new café opens. Franchise Partners and their teams have access to ongoing learning and development designed to help them continually strengthen their skills, from coffee and food preparation through to customer service and day-to-day café operations.

Initiatives such as the Muffin Break Barista Competition take that development one step further, giving team members something to work towards and an opportunity to showcase what they can do.

For Franchise Partners, having access to these kinds of network-wide initiatives can also help create a stronger team culture. Staff can build their skills, challenge themselves and feel connected to something bigger than their individual café.

Building great coffee, one barista at a time

Coffee is at the heart of the Muffin Break experience, which is why developing confident, knowledgeable baristas is so important to the brand.

The 2026 competition showcased the level of care that goes into creating a great cup of coffee – from technique and consistency to presentation and the overall customer experience.

It also gave baristas from across the network the chance to connect, learn from each other and bring new energy and knowledge back to their stores.

The benefits of being part of a franchise network

Running your own café doesn’t have to mean doing everything on your own.

As a Muffin Break Franchise Partner, you become part of an established network with access to training, operational support, marketing, proven systems and initiatives designed to engage and develop your team.

Events like the Barista Competition are a great example of what being part of a larger franchise network can offer. They bring our cafés together, recognise talented people and help maintain the standards customers expect when they visit Muffin Break.

Congratulations to our Muffin Break Fountain Gate winner Grace Shao and to every barista who took part in the 2026 competition.
